The best thing about alternative toenail fungus remedies is that you can mix and match treatments. But before doing so, test your skin. Because like it or not, some of the potent ingredients in these alternative cures may cause irritation to the skin surrounding the infected nail. Skin testing is simple, in clinics and hospitals, before any intravenous or topical application of an antimicrobial drug is administered, it is standard procedure to test by applying a little of the cream or injecting a very small amount of the drugs in between layers of the epidermis.

You can do this too with your alternative toenail fungus remedies by applying a little of it on the skin, the wrist or inner part of the arm. These areas are sensitive because they have thinner layer of skin, wait for one or two hours to see if there is irritation, and then wash off. If there are no manifestations of irritation of any kind like itchiness or inflammation, then you may proceed in using the remedies.

Mixing and matching alternative toenail fungus remedies are a common practice and some individuals can attest that these are more effective than using just one treatment. Here are some examples of mixing and matching.

A classic mix and match are vinegar and hydrogen peroxide treatments. There are two ways of doing this match, alternate usage of the two cures per day and mixing with a ratio of 1:1. Alternate usage means one day is all peroxide and the next day all vinegar, using a dropper or smearing the infected nail the treatments. Combining the two alternative toenail fungus remedies create a potent chemical called peracetic acid. This is usually used to clean tiled floors and bathrooms to get rid of molds and mildew. Again application can be with a dropper or smear on the nail. Listerine and tea tree oil matching is combining the powerful phenol in the mouthwash, thymol, with the potency of tea tree oil. Thymol is a phenol present in thyme and oregano oils that is proven effective against bacterial and fungal growth. Soaking the nail in the mouthwash for 15 to 30 minutes, there is no need to wash the nail afterwards, instead apply tea tree oil immediately to lock the effects of Listerine and add the potency of the oil. Hydrogen peroxide and Vick VapoRub treatment combination begins by soaking the nail with the peroxide for 15 minutes. Peroxide is naturally present in fruits and vegetables, vitamin C releases peroxide in the system to fight infection. After soaking the nail, administer the vaporub, applying liberally. Vicks is made from camphor and eucalyptol that are used against infection. To protect the nail and avoid spreading the toenail fungus remedies on clothes and shoes, put on a bandaid. There are other mix and matches of alternative toenail fungus remedies; it is up to you what will suit you best without irritating your skin. All of the cures may have worked one way or another for other individuals, keeping in mind that not all individuals are alike in reacting to different solutions.

It is important to note that there are also several good remedies that have been specifically blended and tested to ensure the best possible nail fungus remedies.

Vicks VapoRub Instructions

Vicks is a line of over-the-counter medications owned by the American company Procter & Gamble. Vicks manufactures NyQuil and its sister medication, DayQuil. The Vicks brand also produces Formula 44 cough medicines, cough drops, VapoRub, and a number of inhaled breathing treatments. For much of its history, Vicks products were manufactured by the family-owned company Richardson-Vicks, Inc. based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Richardson-Vicks, Inc. was eventually sold to Procter & Gamble in 1985. Japan is the only country, where it is a former Procter & Gamble product, before the product, sold to Taisho Pharmaceutical, in May 2002. In German speaking countries, the brandname Vicks was changed to Wick in order to avoid an otherwise sexual allusion that the original name would pose. In 1890, pharmacist Lunsford Richardson took over the retail drug business of his brother-in-law Dr. Joshua Vick, of Selma, Greensboro, North Carolina. After Dr. Joshua Vick saw an ad for Vick's Seeds, Lunsford Richardson began marketing Vick's Family Remedies. The basic ingredients of the range included castor oil, liniment, 'dead shot' vermifuge. The most popular remedy was Croup and Pneumonia Salve, which was first compounded in 1891, in Greensboro. It was introduced in 1905 with the name Vick's Magic Croup Salve and rebranded as VapoRub in 1912 at the instigation of Smith Richardson, Lunsford's oldest son; Smith had gained valuable sales and marketing experience while working for a period in ...
